Puppy Aptitude Test

 12/10/09

• RETRIEVING TEST 5 Pups retrieved the object and returned it to the tester..Degree of willingness to work with a human and High correlation between ability to retrieve and successful guide dogs, obedience dogs, field trial dogs-2- starts to chase object, loses interest -1- does not retrive object.

• TOUCH SENSITIVITY TEST- 6 of the pups were between the 6-10 on sensitivity to touch 2- were in the 2-4-  tester takes a front foot and pressing finger and thumb(pinching) lightly to firmly between toes on the webbing until you get a response- counting very slowly to 10, stopping as soon as puppy pulls away or shows discomfort..Shows degree of sensitivity to touch.Higher the number before pup shows discomfort the less sensitive to touch they seem to be..

• SOUND SENSITIVITY TEST- 7 Showed Curiosity by looking at tester, But no interest in the sound..1 moved away.. this is very good, shows that my sound de-sensitivity work is WORKING!!! A LARGE METAL SPOON STRUCK SHARPLY ON A PAN  a number of times...

• SIGHT SENSITIVITY-8 pups Showed curiosity, attempts to investigate the object. Degree of intelligent response to strange objects.

• ELEVATION DOMINANCE- 7 NO STRUGGLE,RELAXED 1-STRUGGLED,SETTLED,LICKED. Degree of accepting dominance while in position of no control.

• SOCIAL DOMINANCE-7 CUDDLES UP TO TESTOR AND TRIES TO LICK THE FACE.. 1 Went away ..needed to pee and did. Degree of acceptance of social dominance.. Test puppy sits on left side and gently stroke him from the head to back..

• RESTRAINT-4 SETTLED,STRUGGLED,SETTLED, WITH EYE CONTACT  4-STRUGGLED THEN SETTLED..Roll the pup on his back and hold it down with light pressure with one hand for a full 30 seconds.

• FOLLOWING-5-Followedreadily, tail up 2-Followed readily, tail down 1-Followed hesitantly, tail down..Tests shows degree of following attraction..

• SOCIAL  ATTRACTION -3-Came readily, tail up, pawed, licked at hands..2-Came readily, tail up 2- Came readily, tail down. 1-Came hesitantly, tail down..show Degree of Social Attraction..

Over all the whole litter tested Mostly in the 3's

This pup is OUTGOING AND FRIENDLY and will adjust well in situations in which he receives regular training and exercise. HIGH IN PACK DRIVE, he has a flexible temperament that adapts well to different types of environments, provided he is handled correctly,. May be too much dog for a family with small children or an elderly couple who are sedentary..

This test was Developed by Joachim and Wendy Volhard and can be found in most of their books..

 Corrie,

 He is 20 pounds now.  Eating well.  He has been coming to the
office with me regularly.  Today is the sixth day in the office.  He is not
like a puppy that I am used to.  He greets the patients politely, no pawing
or mouthing or playing, follows them and me back to my office and goes
directly to his kennel where he gets a treat.  Then, when asked, comes out
to greet the new person and promptly lays at our feet.  Typically, he lays
quietly and sleeps or gets up and goes to his kennel or just chews on a toy
or rawhide. Then, walks out with us to say good bye and greet the next
patient and repeats the whole process over again.  We do this about 12 to 14
times per day before I take him home to play with Meggie.  Everyone is
amazed at how calm he is.

**Guide dog trainers have the greatest faith in this test. A dog that retrieves nearly always works out to be a Guide Dog because it indicates a willingness to please the owner**

Testing is always done by people that the pups do not know and have never been around and in a area that they have never been in and do not know. No one can be around them but the tester and Score taker during the testing.

Jan Manning(Dog Trainer) and her husband did this years P.A.T. Tests....Tests was done at Jan Mannings house..

Copies of the Puppy Aptitude Test of each pup will be given to their new owners at time of Placement.

All of my pups are very out going and seem to have their tails up being very brave with whatever they encounter...CJ1 litter seems too be very balanced. All being about the same in temperament. Of course. with some variations being different in nature and sex.

I do sound desensitizing everyday with many different sounds that they may encounter in their future. This shows in the Temperament Tests!! Almost all of the litter really was not interested in the noise the tester was making!!

5 of the pups did Great if not very well on Retrieving which I will continue to work with until they go to their new mama's and papa's.   

Being poodles and very athletic dogs they do have energy but are not hyper!

I am sooooooo very pleased with this whole litter and feel that they will all make great working companions and some to be just companions that can be very showy, smart and ready to do whatever they are being taught.

I want to thank you again for our wonderful, perfect, Cody.  Even though we’ve had him for only six days, he is everything in health and temperament you said he would be.

I looked at many different breeders, from several different states, before I found you.  Your ethics, your integrity, your passion and the care you take for breeding healthy, active and intelligent standard poodles I’ve observed, is a rarity in the dog breeding business.  You have a singular goal and mindset for the health and wellbeing of the puppies you raise and the ones that leave to  “forever homes”.

I’ve said this to you previously, but I wonder if you know how much joy and happiness you give to people who become your dog’s families.
